What are you “paying attention” to …

“Nothing is ever lost. If you have moved over vast territories and dared to love silly things, you will have learned even from the most primitive items collected and put aside in your life. From an ever-roaming curiosity in all the arts, from bad radio to good theatre, from nursery rhyme to symphony, from jungle compound to Kafka’s Castle, there is basic excellence to be winnowed out, truths found, kept, savored, and used on some later day. To be a child of one’s time is to do all these things.”

Ray Bradbury – Zen in the Art of Writing: Releasing the Creative Genius Inside You

If you have been following me for the past couple of weeks you will know that I’m focusing on awareness. What is in our sights that we can pay attention to and what isn’t.  This quote which I found on a blog simply called Whiskey River triggered the question for me: what do I pay attention to in a more peripheral way. I think it was the reference to “bad radio” that did it!

So here is a list of ten things that have caught my attention recently that have nothing directly to do with my work.

  1. How incredibly varied our physical appearances are.
  2. The difference between how a six year old and a ten year old thinks!
  3. Leonard Cohen – back performing at 74!
  4. The Mom Song – if you want a good laugh CLICK HERE
  5. Peter Carey’s latest novel – His Illegal Self
  6. Generosity in all shapes and sizes
  7. The silky feel of the water in the river as I swim.
  8. My own “busyness”
  9. The music of Ray LaMontagne and The Audreys
  10. Extra-ordinary minds and the power we now have, via the internet, to hear these thinkers and dreamers speaking their truth. For a sample CLICK HERE

My list wasn’t easy, but lots of fun, to construct so I encourage you to think about you own list. What else, apart from work catches your attention. If you feel so inclined I’d love to hear from you on this
